This guy gets it

Some really great musings on what's wrong with the evangelical church (and why we should love it and stick it out anyway).

Here's a good introduction to where he's coming from.

Trying new recipes

Like many cooks, I have a whole bookshelf full of cookbooks.  Some get used a decent amount (like Indian Home Cooking: A Fresh Introduction to Indian Food) and others not so much.  Lately we've been trying out some new Thai recipes from Keo's Thai Cuisine.

I've been cooking Thai food for quite awhile, mostly various curries and bean paste based dishes.  I tried my first whole catfish dish the other night.  Very simple recipe, fry up a whole catfish, drench in red curry sauce and serve over raw shredded cabbage.  Extremely tasty.  Some photos are on Flickr.

Last night I tried the Beef with Fresh Basil dish, another simple stirfry with flank steak, garlic, kaffir lime, straw mushrooms, bamboo shoots, red chilis and oyster sauce.  The final product looks and tastes yummy.

Great news for film geeks

If you are a film nerd like me who still misses the chemistry and brilliance of the original Siskel and Ebert movie review show, some really cool stuff just went up on the Ebert and Roeper (gag) website.  Yeah, just not a fan of Roeper, he's not enough of a reviewer to be worthy to tie Siskel's shoes, but I digress.  At least Siskel wasn't afraid to say something sucked.  Anyway, they have digitalized a ton of the old shows and put them online, so you can go back and watch the original reviews of all kinds of old movies.  Check out the news from Roger.
